I watched a doccie the other day on National Geographic channel called "taboo". It was really, really interesting and they pointed out the fact that people who think body modification is strange probably find plastic surgery totally normal and acceptable. What's up with that?
They featured the body-suit tattoos that are done by Japanese gangsters and how the tradition is linked to the Samurai way of life.
They also featured a whole look at body modifiers and they interviewed anthropologists about the psychology surrounding body modification. They showed branding, scarring, stretching and implants.
It was awesome. I have great respect for body modifiers.

i have actually caught that show earlier and it is very interesting, they have a whole series of the show 'taboo' and they are all very interesting and lots of them have to do with modification. i highly recommend watching them!

do they play the show often? i think i've heard of it but i don't know how often they show it or when i might be able to catch it..it sounds interesting.. and on the topic, i'm enjoying all these new shows about body modification that are coming about..

The “Taboo:” series is good, but for more cultural depth I’d also recommend “Going Tribal”, the best way to hunt these shows down is by placing the phrases on your TIVO “wish list”, for those lacking TIVO look for it on NGC (National Geographic Channel).

no that only leaves the problem of finding national geographic channel...my cable company keeps switdching the channels.

I dunno how to find it - im in south africa and we use digital satelite and i think our national geographic channel is different to others
