Neosporin on tattooBlackWolf99 - 2007-02-09 07:52:03 Uhr
Hey your supposed to put some kind of lotion on your tattoo right? i was wondering if neosporin is okay to put on or if it will ruin the tattoo. and if i can use neosporin, what are some other recommended lotions to use? thanks in advance for any responses.

Im not entirely sure what Neosporin is so i cant comment on that. Ive always been told that haemoroid/pile cream is the best thing to use. Something like germaloids.
Good luck anyway!

No no no, Neosporin is bad, after about 5 days of using it the Zinc that is in it (look at the ingredients) will start to build up in the area where you are using it and can cause an allergic reaction.
Taking care of your tattoo:
For the first five days use A&D ointment, just enough to keep the tattoo moist, don't goop it on thinking that it is going to make it heal faster because it isn't. After the five days is up start putting sent free lotion or coacoa butter on it. after about two weeks it should be pretty much healed. If it scabbs up DON'T pick at the scabbs, just let them heal.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask

AmeliaHorror is suggesting a good method. Neosporin is bad, it can cause allergic reactions like stated, but it also doesn't completely wash off. On top of that, it will leech some color out of the tattoo, causing a higher chance of needing touch-ups or your tattoo fading quickly.
5-7 days of A&D and then lotion will work best. I'd recommend UNSCENTED Dove hand lotion. Dove is the one with the highest amount of moisturizer and not too many harsh chemicals.

I dont know what neosporin is, but it sounds like a pharmaceutical- be careful of those creams because they often drain the colour. They are also not made for tattoos, your healing tat needs to breathe: those lotions lock air out and this could negatively affect how your tattoo will heal.
When i got tattooed i used a cream called 'tattoo goo'. there are many different types including goo with SPF! this stuff is great, check it out @ http://tattoogoo.com
