temporarily removing a lip piercing

so, i have a bit of a dental emergency and in order to fix it i would have to temporarily remove my lip jewellery. i've had my piercing done 2 and a half years ago and i was just wondering if it would heal (completely?) in case i remove it?

hopefully I get this to you in time... basically, every body is different. How the piercing heals seems to affect how fast it closes as well. My personal experience is that I can take out my lip ring and it never closes. I used to always worry about taking it out for doctor's appointments and things like that, or if I lost my jewelry. But I took it out to let it heal up once, and after 5 months still had water trickling out of it. So now I wear it on my days off and can leave it out for even a week while I'm at work and it's no problem to get it back in. Even if it closes a little bit, it's pretty easy to stretch back out.
