i'm not sure why, but one of my lip rings just started swelling for no particular reason. i took the ring out and it feels like a knot is there... this all happened in a matter of minutes. could anyone tell me what this is / how to treat it?

it may have just got infected or was tore or moved the wrong way go to a bigger ring and treated like you were told when you got it

Hey I'm new to this site, so take it easy on me here.
I just got my spiderbites done yesterday, and I woke up today to find that my lip was swollen. I took a look at it, it doesn't feel or look like it's infected - it's as if I got punched in the mouth, and now I have a fat lip. On the inside, I think I can see like, some popped blood vessels or something because there's a patch of red on the inside of my lip, not right where the labret is, but somewhere above it.
My labrets also feel kinda tight. I put some ice on it, and the swelling kind of went down, but it's still kinda there. Can someone help me out here? I don't really know what to do.
When I got it done, I don't remember hearing anything about what to do if it got swollen. :/

Hi I am a body piercer & would like to help both of you regarding swelling after a piercing has been freshly done. Swelling is 100% normal & there is nothing to be worried about, take some ibprophen (as directed) for a week or so & use ice to help the swelling go down. As for aftercare, you need to be using a sea salt soak 1-2 times per day maximum making sure you are using exactly 1/4 of a tea spoon of sea salt per 8 fl oz of water (as warm as you can you stand) dissolved & it is critical that you use a different freshly cleaned 8 fl oz glass every time to mix the solution, just swish it in your mouth for 3-5 minutes. You need to be using a non-alcoholic, dye free antiseptic mouth wash (I use Crest Pro Health) 6+ times per day (when you wake up, before you go to bed, after you eat, smoke, or drink: try to avoid excessive amounts of alcohol especially beer because it contains yeast). You can also use Bactine (contains lidocaine & benzocaine) on a cotton swab to help with pain because it is an antiseptic & numbs the piercing, but you should only use it for 2-3 weeks following the piercing because the fragrance in it can cause irritation or infection if used for long term treatment. *H2Ocean is a good alternative to sea salt soaks.
Do not use: Alcohol, Hydrogen Peroxide, Witch Hazel, Iodine, Triple Anti-Biotic Ointment, or Ear Piercing solutions
As for the person who took their piercing out soon after it was pierced, do not try to put it back in you are going to have to wait 6 or more months before you can get it re-pierced because it will take that long to heal & if there is an infection you will need to make a Doctor's appointment asap to have them look at it.
