How do you move up to larger gauge jewelry?

I have several peircing done with 16 ga barbells. I want to stretch them out to 10 ga. How would I go about doing this? Are there any tricks or techniques other than just swapping out for the next size? Thanks....

first of all, what type of piercings do you have....if a shallow piercing ( like a surface piercing ) you should consult your local piercing establishment....if you are talking about ear lobes, the best and safest way to stretch your piercings is to use a lubricated taper ( a taper is small on one end and the size you want to stretch to on the other end ) you should only stretch one size at a time (to prevent blowouts) wait about 8 weeks before you stretch to the next size...since you are planning on stretching to 10 gauge, this method should be safe for you, anything larger should be done at a reputable piercing shop..also,
