I'm getting my Monroe pierced on Saturday and I'm very excited about it! : D Just wondering if anyone has any experiences they could share about their Monroe/Madonna piercings, what gauge/ type jewelery they were pierced with and how long the healing process was? Thanks, Louisa.

complete healing process takes about a month, often less, but it's not advisory to change the jewelry before a month has passed.
the barbell used has a flat disk on one side, which is to prevent gum damage..unfortunately there always is at certain extent.. you can get pierced with a few different gauges, but pieceres usually offer 1.2mm-d jewelry, which is 16g i think... right? you can get pierced with a 14g as well if you want, which is 1.6mm
the piercer would tell you about aftercare, but still..
on the outside - sea salt solution soaks + plain vaseline (not obligatory) (when using soap, make sure it's 5.5 ph and with no colorifying or aromatic ingrediences which may irritate the skin around the piercing. baby soap is a good solution!)
on the inside - mouth wash, antiseptic/antibacterial, you piercer will suggest you something. by the way i think a less concentrated sea salt + water solution might work too.. some people have used it and some piercers reccomend it
