Swollen piercingBigT4313 - 2007-11-03 20:20:10 Uhr
Ok, first post, I'll keep it sweet and short. About a month ago, I got 2, 12 gauge conch piercings, one above the other, with a hoop in each. About 5 days later, my ear swelled right tight with the ring and my piercer told me to start icing it and taking lots of advil. The swelling went down alot, but a month later, it's still a little puffy. How long til the swelling will completely go down?

Well, Keep cleaning it and take some motrin or some more advil. And try not sleeping on it, because that is probably why it is so aggrivated. Cartillage piercings generally take 6 to 8 weeks to heal anyway so it sounds like it's not doing too bad considering you got them both done at the same time. Just make sure you keep them clean and try not to aggrivate them.

Cartilage piercings take much longer than that to heal... sometimes up to a year depending.
Conch piercings usually average 2-4 months for healing, so you shouldn't really worry about it BigT. If it starts getting worse, check back with your piercer.

Swelling usuallly isn't something to worry about with a new piercing unless it's extremely gooey or gross... don't sleep on it or play with it. Touching it can aggravate it a lot. Try taking 50 mg zinc vitamins, they are an anti-inflammatory and really help with the healing process. You'll need to take them every day to be effective though. Hope this helps!

Well, 25 days later and the swelling hasn't gone down much, but it doesn't hurt either. There's still the little bit of "gook" every time I clean it. I read somewhere bout a guy who had an orbital done in that area, and his ear swelled up, and only went down about 10% and permanetely stayed that shape. Is it possible that, this is what's happening to mine? Thanks for the advice so far you guys, really appreciate it, I'll take a pic of my ear soon and show ya for better understanding.

I've never heard of that ever happening, unless it was a problem with alignment causing pressure on the cartilage or possibly infecting it. I highly doubt that's what's going on with yours.
If you are worried about that, go to a piercing studio and have them look at it.

Ive had quite a few cartillage piercings, and all of them have swollen up. It is possible that scar tissue forms around a piercing making it slightly thicker than the surrounding cartillage. This has happened with most of my piercings, and unfortunatly there isn't much that you can do about it. The longer the piercing stays highly inflammed the more likely this is to happen though, so i would suggest taking anti-inflamatories such ibuprofen, and cleaning the piercing. It is helpful to ice the area to get the swelling down, but myself and my piercer have both found that soaking a cloth in water as hot as you can stand without scalding yourself, and holding it on the piercing helps to draw out any infection and soothe the area.
As said before though, swelling is normal, but go back to your piercer if it becomes very painful or horrible looking.
Hope that helps =) good luck!
