nipple jewelry- gold, titanium, stainless steel?incognita - 2004-05-12 07:11:45 Uhr
I think I've pretty much decided to have my nipples pierced within the next few weeks, and I think I'm going to go with having both done, and having rings. I don't know what type though--
1)How big of gauge do they use? what is standard?
2)What type metal should I choose for my jewelry?
3)Anyone have strong thoughts on barbells vs. rings? (I guess I just like the looks of rings better from what I've seen, plus I've heard they are easier to take care of during immediate after care.)
4)If I get rings like I think I will, how does it work to wear a bra? Is it ok to push the ring up or down a little to make it fit into the bra? (Trust me, going without a bra for a while is not an option in my case- I'm only a C cup, but my nipples do tend to show if I don't wear a bra).
Any and all feedback will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

1) Typically a 14 gauge is used.
2)Stainless steel is a good bet for the initial piercing. I have heard that gold doesn't react well with some people's bodies so a lot of piercers now are not even doing gold at first anymore.
3)Barbells don't show as much through shirts and unpadded bras. They don't get caught on other things and they are more sanitary because you aren't pushing all the disgusting @!#$ back into your new piercing like you will with rings, but its up to you. Goodluck with the rings since i'm sure others' opinions won't change your mind. They didn't change mine.
4) A bra is a must no matter what your cup size is. It just hurts like hell to feel a new piercing rub the inside of your shirt. Also the support helps. And I'm sorry I can't say anything about the positioning of the ring.
Good Luck

1) I hear a 14 is pretty standard, but it depends on how big your nipple is and what your piercer suggests.
2) SS is pretty standard as well, though if you have a nickel allergy you might opt for titanium which is a little more expensive but worth it... If you do get gold then make sure it's at least 18K, though I'm not sure how common it is for people to put gold in their nipples.
3/4) I would think that rings would get caught on your bra (especially if it were lacy and unpadded...), and be more visible, plus if they flip up wrong they can cause come great discomfort. Barbells are smaller and are a closer fit, plus are less visible, though it really depends on your preferences.
I think your best bet would be talking to your piercer to see what he/she recommends.
