honey vs. infectionasche - 2004-08-28 07:52:38 Uhr
a long long time ago (pre written history i think) there was an egyptian man named imhotep(yep, that's right, the same one in the movie "the mummy" 1&2). this man discovered that you can use raw honey to get rid of infections. so next time you get an infection just put some good old fashion raw honey on it and put a bandage over it and there you go! don't think it will work? my sisters belly button got infected a few days after getting it pierced. she tried everything she could but nothing worked. then she heard about honey killing infections, she squeezed all the puss out and put some honey and a bandage on it and a few days later it was fine! so if nothing else works on your infection, give it a shot.

Raw honey hmmmm well this is the first time I have ever heard of it. Interesting tho I pretty much keep my piercings pretty well clean and infection free so I don't have to use it. But I will keep it in mind for future problems!! THANKS

Taken from Webmd. Honey helps wounds in several ways, says Molan. Its thickness provides a protective barrier. The hydrogen peroxide it contains is released slowly, killing germs in the wound. Some as-yet-unknown ingredients reduce inflammation, while others, perhaps amino acids and vitamin C, speed the growth of healthy tissue. Honey even makes wounds smell better, possibly because when bacteria in wounds eat honey's sugars, they give off sweeter-smelling gases. Novel as this treatment sounds, it would have inspired yawns among doctors in ancient Egypt, according to May Berenbaum, Ph.D., a University of Illinois entomologist. "Honey has been used for centuries to treat a wide range of medical problems like wounds, burns, cataracts, skin ulcers and scrapes," she says. "And now various researchers worldwide are also studying -- and finding -- strong antimicrobial properties in some honeys."
